PS Shipping and Maritime Engages TradeMark Africa on Port Efficiency and Logistics
The Principal Secretary State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs Mr. Aden Millah today hosted a high-level consultative meeting with TradeMark Africa (TMA) to review progress on the ongoing 2024/2025 Logistics Performance Survey (LPS) and the Mombasa Port and Northern Corridor Community Charter (MPNCCC) Review.
During the meeting, TradeMark Africa (TMA) presented a comprehensive progress update, noting that the assignment had advanced to the final synthesis and draft reporting phase, with key milestones achieved in stakeholder consultations, surveys, and time-and-motion studies across the logistics chain.
Deliberations highlighted several emerging issues affecting maritime and port efficiency, including export flow challenges and congestion at the Port of Mombasa, cold-chain and reefer management, scanning and inspection processes, as well as the need for enhanced digital integration across port systems.
The Principal Secretary provided strategic guidance on priority areas for the final report, emphasizing the importance of improving port performance, strengthening maritime competitiveness, and streamlining governance under the Charter framework.
The discussions also underscored the need to address remaining data gaps and deepen collaboration among maritime and port stakeholders.
The meeting concluded with an agreement on the next steps toward validation, stakeholder alignment, and the delivery of actionable recommendations aimed at improving logistics performance and reinforcing Kenya’s position as a regional maritime and trade hub.
